About Us

The Madison County SPCA Humane Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity that was established in 1973.  We are a no-kill shelter that euthanizes an animal only in extreme medical/physical condition.

Your financial contribution or bequeathal to MCHS would help provide: comforting care and medical treatment for our animals, spaying/neutering of all MCHS adoptable cats and dogs, attempts to reunite lost pets with their owners, and screening for caring, forever homes for pets.

We receive no taxpayer monies and rely solely on donations of money and supplies, fund-raising, and memberships to stay in business. We have a very small paid staff, leaning heavily on volunteers to help us.  In 2012, it cost MCHS over $225,000 to operate.  We provided shelter for between 100-120 animals daily, with some foster care.  We took in 494 animals and made 475 adoptions.

Madison County SPCA Humane Society is proud to be a PetSmart Charitable Partner. You can see some MCHS cats for adoption and apply at Anderson PetSmart on S. Scatterfield Rd. A few MCHS adoptable dogs visit PetSmart on Saturdays from 11:00am-4:00pm.
